MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports on the Republicans losing control at their hearings as even Melania got roasted by witnesses on live tv in addition to Trump Cabinet Members.
In one of the most chaotic days on Capitol Hill in recent memory, multiple congressional hearings held by MAGA-aligned Republicans spun completely out of control as their own witnesses turned against them, Democratic lawmakers came prepared with searing lines of questioning, and major Trump-era scandals were dragged into the spotlight.
The mayhem began in the House of Representatives, where Republicans brought in Alex Nowrasteh, a libertarian policy expert from the Cato Institute, expecting supportive testimony on immigration. Instead, Nowrasteh cracked a sarcastic joke about former First Lady Melania Trump, stating, “Not everybody could marry Donald Trump. I think that’s quite an achievement. Maybe she deserves an Einstein visa just for tolerating the stench of the orange Mussolini.” What was intended as a routine witness comment quickly became viral fodder.
Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett seized the moment. She launched into a scathing critique of Melania’s EB-1 “Einstein” visa, typically reserved for individuals with Nobel Prizes or Olympic medals. “She was a model—but not a Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, or Cindy Crawford model. More like a KitKat Club model,” Crockett said, referencing the New York nightclub where Melania met Trump. “It doesn’t take an Einstein to see the math ain’t mathing here.”
Tensions escalated further when MAGA Republican Chip Roy clashed with Nowrasteh, accusing him of supporting immigration policies that “kill Americans.” Roy shouted over him, claiming the libertarian expert was “hiding behind Americans” while enabling deadly policies. “That’s beneath you,” Nowrasteh responded, shaking his head at the hostile exchange.
Across the Capitol, in the Senate Judiciary Committee, more fireworks erupted. Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Emil Bove, now a nominee for a top federal judgeship, refused to acknowledge who won the 2020 election. Pressed by Sen. Peter Welch, Bove repeatedly dodged the question, saying only that “President Biden was certified.”
Then came a brutal cross-examination by Rep. Adam Schiff, who referenced a whistleblower complaint accusing Bove of instructing DOJ attorneys to ignore federal court rulings and say “F the judges.” Bove claimed he didn’t remember making such comments. Schiff responded: “It seems to me that would be something you’d remember—unless it’s something you say frequently.”
Back in the House, Rep. Robert Garcia confronted Trump-appointed Voice of America head Kari Lake. Garcia didn’t mince words: “You lied about the 2022 election. You lied about 2024. You were sanctioned by the courts. And now you want to run the truth-telling arm of the federal government?” Lake responded not with facts, but by holding up a framed photo of Donald Trump and asking the room to “look at his face.”
Later, Sen. Patty Murray grilled Trump-era Attorney General Pam Bondi over ethics violations tied to Trump’s crypto memecoin dinner, where foreign nationals reportedly attended. When asked if she’d support ethics guidelines to prevent foreign influence, Bondi deflected with rants about “illegal aliens” and violent crime. Her refusal to address the actual question drew sharp criticism.
Another low point came when Bondi defended Emil Bove and Todd Blanche—two top Trump DOJ figures accused of telling prosecutors to defy court orders. “I will always support and defend Emil Bove and Todd Blanche,” Bondi declared, refusing to disavow the inflammatory remarks.
To close out the day, Sen. Elizabeth Warren took a more policy-focused tone during a hearing with Fed Chair Jerome Powell. She asked why the Fed had revised its inflation, growth, and unemployment projections downward. Powell cited tariffs and “short-term policy shocks”—subtle digs at Trump’s recent economic moves—underscoring concerns about the administration’s economic management.
From MAGA witness meltdowns to viral Democratic clapbacks, Thursday’s hearings laid bare the disarray within the GOP ranks. What was meant to be a show of strength turned into a parade of infighting, denials, and public embarrassment. And judging by the clips flooding social media, the political fallout is far from over.
